Ecologie and the Swedish Sponge Cloth – A Love Story
For Danica, our love affair with Swedish sponge cloths began in early 2000. Through their travels, several staff members were introduced to the product and fell in love! We quickly decided that everyone in North America should have a Swedish sponge cloth and that Danica should make that happen.
Because we are a design company known for our unique and original designs, we needed to make sure that we could put our surface design style on the sponge cloths in addition to offering a quality product.
Our Product Development team researched options and landed on a partnership with a Swedish manufacturer and German ink printer that could accommodate our creative flair while maintaining the product’s natural qualities.
The first uniquely designed Swedish sponge cloths were introduced in 2014 as part of our Now Designs cleaning category. It was an innovative product, new to North America that our retail customers immediately embraced and shared with their customers.
Over the years, we added various sponge cloth sizes - towels and dry mats - and beeswax wraps and bags to create Ecologie by Danica, an eco-focused brand. Get to know Swedish sponge cloths and learn how to sell them in your store too.

Using traditional techniques first developed in 1949, our Swedish sponge cloths are authentically made in Sweden. By screen-printing our unique designs with non-toxic inks, our durable, reusable and fully compostable sponge cloths quickly became the go-to in this category. We began to sell Swedish sponge clothes in 2014 - and have been leading the way in eco-friendly alternatives ever since!
